Is this the New MG TF?

Is this the all-new TF? No, I doubt it, its just AutoExpress up to their usual Photoshopping antics, however there may be some truth in there somewhere!

What is for sure is that SAIC will be thinking about the replacement for the TF. Although its age, it still more than holds its own against the MX-5, which is really its sole remaining competitor in its market segment.

My personal feelings are along the lines of the following; The TF will be replaced in the next few years with an all-new platform which will revert to the engineering-friendly front engined, rear wheel drive layout. This will allow more flexibility in the engine department and perhaps allow for the engineering of a folding tin-top as well, as the engine won't be in the way!

The TF Platform though I wouldn't be surprised to see it live on with a complete overhaul and rebody as an MG Midget. The new TF would be a bit larger than the current model and the Midget would shrink as much as it possibly could do on the TF Platform.

Even though the TF dates from 2001 and parts of it back to 1995! The platform is very much competitive, even if the car is perhaps showing its age a little. It  would make sense to reuse the platform for a Midget to sit under the TF in the MG line up.

You can read what AutoExpress think here, but I would, to be honest, take what I say and they say with a pinch of salt as I certainly don't know what MG are doing, but I doubt Auto Express do either!
