A rare opportunity to see inside the MG Birmingham factory

Today we got the opportunity to have a look around the MG6 production facility at MG Birmingham. This was very rare on two counts, a) you're normally shot if you get within 100 yards of the plant if you're holding a camera and b) production is about to start, so in a few weeks it will be full of car bodies on the lines in various stages of build - even during holidays. So really, it will never be seen this empty again.

Whilst the MG6 models aren't built from scratch in Birmingham, they arrive around 80% complete from SAIC's MG6 factory in China, pre painted. This has obvious cost saving benefits whilst production is ramped up at MG's Birmingham plant. At the current production level, it simply isn't feasable to build the car from component level here, especially as SAIC has a factory pumping MG6s out in China.

There are loads of images in the gallery from the event (click here), a selection of them are shown below.

The MG6 Fastback enters production in April, with  the Saloon coming online in July.
