Plato once again on the podium
Rain, rain and more rain greeted MG KX Momentum Racing for today’s three rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Thruxton in Hampshire. The team worked late into the night in order to repair both of their MG6 race cars and were rewarded with two podium finishes for lead driver, double BTCC champion; Jason Plato.
Race One of the day started in treacherous conditions, Jason Plato made a fantastic start and breezed past pole-sitter Jordan on the run down to Turn One, the Honda then aquaplaned into Jason’s MG6 sending him off onto the grass, dropping him to 5th, with Jordan spinning out of the race. The conditions meant there were several incidents and the Safety-Car was deployed after 12 laps, with Jason having climbed to a podium position in 3rd. The race was declared a result under the Safety Car, due to the adverse conditions and several damaged cars needing to be recovered. 75% race distance had been reached and so full points were awarded.
The rain had relented slightly as the BTCC field formed up for Race Two, but Dunlop’s wet tyre was most certainly still required to splash around the soggy Hampshire venue. Jason ran third in the early stages, battling with the eventual winner Shedden. Continuing to fight the conditions Jason went on to record his second podium of day, coming home in a strong second place.
