A Testing Time15th June 2010
![]() LabCar This is where the engineers at MG test the electronic systems in the cars before they go anywhere near the public. The setup allows them to test every operation of the cars systems to ensure that they always perform in the way they expect.
The board system shown in the first series of photos allows the engineers to simulate control systems, such as heating / ventilation, the instrument pack, switch gear etc..
The more sophisticated LabCar setup allows even more in-depth testing with engine integration and a complete vehicle setup.
Before these systems were available this would have required engineering cars, which are expensive and needles to say, the body has to exist before they can test the electrical system. Using LabCar means they can develop the body and electric systems in parallel and removes the need for so many engineering cars.
It also makes fault diagnoses vastly easier as conditions that cause the fault can easily be simulated in the lab without having to try and recreate the conditions on the road in an engineering car. Electrical Test System
