MG Motor UK today announced it will enter the 2012 BTCC Series with a ‘dream team' of cars, drivers, constructors and sponsors.

Two MG6 GT cars will run in the all-new MG KX Momentum Racing team piloted by double BTCC champion Jason Plato and BTCC rising star Andy Neate.

MG6

The MG6 has scooped the What Car? 2012 Security Award – the first major honour for the new car, launched just nine months ago.

Experts on the judging panel paid glowing tributes to the MG6, which is designed and engineering at MG Motor UK's plant in Birmingham where final assembly also takes place.

They said: “This year, we were looking for a manufacturer that has demonstrated the greatest effort to improve security, either through a particular innovation or a sheer determination to design out crime.

“MG's new hatch stood out for us. The MG6 has been bolstered with the industry's highest-rated alarm and immobiliser system, complete with perimeter detection. Meanwhile, body security has been fortified with first-press double locking, and vehicle identification enhanced with markings.

Ace Cafe London
Ace Cafe London
This Saturday, December 3rd, MG are teaming up with the staff from our Finchley & Totteridge dealer for a Great British Charity test drive event with a difference.

You are invited to join us on a day with a difference starting with a mini 'run' from the famous petrol head mecca, Ace Cafe London, round the North Circular to the Finchley and Totteridge site on Colney Hatch Lane. We are meeting at the Ace to enjoy breakfast, soak up the atmosphere and make our introductions between 8am and 10am, when the main party will depart for Finchley and Totteridge. As it's nearly Christmas, this will be a run with a difference with the group led off by some very festive MG6's and a very special guest.

Any MG drivers are welcome to park outside the cafe's main car park (there is ample off street parking) and join us on the journey from the Ace to the dealer.

MG Motor UK in nationwide charity drive
A fleet of the latest MG cars are touring the country in an initiative which hopes to raise thousands of pounds for two worthy charities.

Thirty MG6 GT and MG6 Magnette sports saloon models are touring Britain in ‘The Great British Charity Test Drive' in support of Macmillan Cancer Support and Help for Heroes.

As the cars, in cavalcades of 10 specially liveried squads, tour the country they will call in at motorway service stations, tourist spots, sports grounds and places of interest. They will also call in at most MG dealerships around Britain.

Anyone over the age of 25 who takes a test drive in either an MG6 GT or an MG6 Magnette before the end of September will be able to nominate one of the two charities which will then receive a £5 donation from MG Motor UK.

If I asked you who SAIC were, would you know? OK, regulars will of course know, but for those who don't, SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) is the parent company of MG Motor UK and is based (as the name suggests) in Shanghai, China and is the largest car manufacturer in China, the largest automotive market in the world. They sold 3.58 million vehicles in 2010, 160,000 of them being MG or Roewe models, a huge increase up from 90,000 the year before.

MG6 Production Line
MG6 Production Line
Today we got the opportunity to have a look around the MG6 production facility at MG Birmingham. This was very rare on two counts, a) you're normally shot if you get within 100 yards of the plant if you're holding a camera and b) production is about to start, so in a few weeks it will be full of car bodies on the lines in various stages of build - even during holidays. So really, it will never be seen this empty again.

There are loads of images in the gallery from the event (click here), a selection of them are linked to this article.
